    Historic bakery

The historic bakery dates back to the 16th century, built in the same place in 1910/11, in operation until mid-1960, renovated in 1998/99. Oldest public building in the community. The upper rooms served in the 18th century as a meeting room and hostel for traveling craftsmen, from 1791 as a school hall and teacher's apartment until 1832. The building in its current form was built in 1910/11. Before that there was a bakery from the 16th century in the same place. “Der Backes” was the center and communication center of the village. The order in which the families were allowed to bake their bread was decided by drawing lots. The tradition ended in 1960. Since the renovation in 1998, people have baked together again on special occasions. The upper rooms of the bakery have had different uses in their long history. After the general renovation in 1998/99, the local community set up a permanent exhibition in collaboration with the Koblenz State Main Archive on the life and work of the Morshausen-born and raised poet Jakob Kneip. The poet from Morshausen

Morshausen's best-known son is the poet Jakob Kneip. He was born in 1881 in the “Treese” house as the eldest of three children of the farmer couple Johann Josef and Elisabeth Ludovika (née Windhäuser). He spent his childhood and early youth in his home village, to which he remained connected throughout his life. In many of his works you can see the love for the landscape of the Vorderen Hunsrück and its people. On his 70th birthday on April 24, 1951, the local community held a festival, made the poet an honorary citizen and gave the place under the oak - and the tree itself - its name. As a thank you, Jakob Kneip donated the statue of the Virgin Mary, which his friend, the sculptor Eugen Keller, created. If you want to learn more about the life and work of the poet Jakob Kneip, you can visit the small museum on the upper floor of the old bakery (next to the church). Source: Text information board
