Lauenstein Castle originated from a castle, originally dating back to the 13th century, in the Lauenstein district of Altenberg, in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district, in Saxony. It was expanded and converted into a palace in the mid-16th century.The building is now used by the Eastern Ore Mountains Museum, Lauenstein Castle.The oldest parts are the foundations, cellar vaults, and the ruins around the Trumpeter's Hall to the west, dating from around 1600, which was demolished in 1849 except for the north wall.
