The cross probably goes back to the death of Eva Rosina Voigt, daughter of the miller Gottlieb Voigt on April 3rd, 1817. 42 years earlier, the maid Agnetha Schurschin committed suicide in largely the same place on the banks of the Kotitz. Both events are documented in the church books of Gröditz.
