The large green cast iron pump that can now be found on the market was originally (circa 1863) at the Old Town Hall. The pump moved to the middle of the Markt in 1902.

Until the 18th century, the Markt was a watering and gathering place for cattle and a washing place due to the presence of pools. For hygienic reasons, the central watering hole was filled in in 1767 and replaced by several pumps, this is one of them.

Approximately in the middle of the square is an octagonal cast iron pump, placed on a hard stone base, decorated with neo-Gothic blind tracery and acanthuses, and also provided with the inscription to the north: EVRARD. The previous one dated from 1767 and first had a wooden, later a stone cladding. The current one with an openwork pointed crowning, provided with a gilded pear, is from 1863, first stood at the town hall and was moved to the Market during its restoration in 1902. Erected on an existing city well from 1761, on which work was done in 1782 by Simon Ketelbuters. In the night of 27 to 28 January 1973, the gilded pear was stolen by unknown persons, after which it was replaced.
