Tucked away in the shade of centuries-old linden trees is the 16th-century Hoksent Chapel. Originally it was dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows (Onse Lieve Vrouw van Zeven Weeën), later the veneration of Saint Anthony was added. Farmers from near and far made pilgrimages to the Hoksenter Chapel to protect their livestock from harm.

The first documents that mention the chapel opt Hoxit are two wills from 1552 and 1555, which show that the chapel was already completely independent of any ecclesiastical authority. It was managed by the inhabitants of the hamlet, who appointed one or two bandmasters from among themselves every year. Eksel's chaplain was the chapel's minister.
