Until 1439 the mother church was the Schweinheimer Kirchel. The Jockgrim parish of St. Dionysius was founded in the same year with the new regulation of the "parish slope" and a new building was approved as a replacement for the "castle church" built around 1390 together with the castle at the current location.

Reduced to just under a dozen people by the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and the plague, Jockgrim was unable to renovate the now dilapidated church. After years of negotiations with the cathedral chapter [Speyer], construction could finally begin in 1772. On August 10, 1788 the new church was consecrated.
