In some places, the Knielinger Lake is up to 21 meters deep (on average between three and seven meters). It is the home lake of the Angler Association Karlsruhe and formerly "Margravial Waters". At its longest point, the lake measures two kilometers and is almost 800 meters wide.
From the shore, the view goes over the partly older barges to the Rhine bridge near Karlsruhe-Knielingen, which can be clearly seen from some places between the trees. The place is suitable for resting, water runners and watching fish. Children can throw stones. A fish farming building of the Anglerverein Karlsruhe e.V. (anglerverein-karlsruhe.de) is on the side of the path.
A few years ago the lake threatened to tip over due to lack of oxygen. An inlet from the Rheinhafen basin was built. This causes the water to flow and enough oxygen to enter the lake. Flora and fauna live again today.
    Technical:
The Knielinger See is designed as a gravel dredging lake. The rest of an old Rhine arm in the northern part of the lake has been protected under the title "Altrhein Maxau" since 1980 and the large quarry lake in the south since 1989 as part of the "Burgau" nature reserve. The lake borders the Rheinpark with the Hofgut Maxau on its eastern side. The Knielinger See is supplied with fresh water from the Rheinhafen. The water flows into the Alb via the Willichgraben.

When it comes to fish farming, there are some nice spots with access to the lake and with shade.

The Knielinger See is not suitable as a bathing lake or place to linger, but the idyllic, green landscape invites you to take relaxing walks through the nature reserve.
