Jockgrim, on a spur of the high bank of the Rhine. The place, first mentioned in 1223 under the name "Jochenheim", was owned by the Prince-Bishops of Speyer in the Middle Ages, who had their seat there for a time. The city wall, some of which is still well preserved today, dates from this period, while the castle bailiwick and the other fortifications were razed by French invasion troops in 1793.
