The history of the historic town hall goes back more than 700 years. The building complex has been expanded several times and therefore represents different stylistic periods. During a tour you can discover the impressive town hall, the large council chamber and the Imperial City Archives with its extensive collection. A visit to the historic rooms on the 1st floor (entrance Ratsstraße 19) is worthwhile.

Building complex from the Gothic and Renaissance periods

The core of the town hall was built around 1300. Extensions from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods created a unique building ensemble in the middle of the old town. Particularly worth seeing are the hall, the large council chamber with Gothic paintings and the Imperial City Archives (1614).

The winding construction of the town hall combines several architectural styles. The bridge passage is a bit reminiscent of similar crossings in Venice.
