The Lindenbühl was first mentioned in 1316 and is named after the linden trees and bühl hills planted on the moat. As part of the defensive system, it fulfilled important defensive tasks for the medieval imperial city for many centuries. In the 19th century The horticultural inspector Adolf Pollex converted it into a promenade. Numerous villas were built along the green belt and parts of the city wall were demolished in 1867 to build the new municipal high school - today the Mühlhäuser Museum. (…from information board)

The historic defensive wall and the partially accessible battlement are very well preserved and well maintained. Please pay attention to the opening times when using the battlement. You can find these on the Mühlhausen website or at the Mühlhausen information office, which can also be found on Komoot. They are really friendly and competent.
