The large, neo-Gothic church building impresses with its diversity and the splendor of the church windows.

The Memorial Church of Protestation invites you to linger. At the entrance, Martin Luther greets us in the vestibule and points out with the famous words "Here I stand, I can't help it, God help me. Amen!" the path to a journey of discovery through the beginnings of the Protestant faith and its history. These beginnings are firmly linked to the Reichstag in Speyer of 1529. At it, a majority decided that the Catholic faith alone should apply throughout the empire. The Protestant faith should no longer have any place. The Protestant estates (six princes and fourteen free imperial cities) protested against this imperial farewell and presented a protest letter. The evangelical name Protestant is derived from this protest and is considered in scientific research to be an important marker and pioneer of the Reformation.

The Memorial Church of Protestation was planned in the 18th century as a monument to Protestantism. As a building, it bears witness to this in many ways. Of course, the church is not just a monument and breathes history, it is above all a church: a large place of worship that invites people to pray and worship and to be in community.

This church has the highest church tower in the Palatinate (100 m high)!

The Luther monument in front of the church commemorates the protest in Speyer in 1529 and the beginnings of the Protestant faith: At the then Reichstag, 6 princes and 14 free imperial cities protested against the fact that the Catholic faith alone should apply in the German Empire and presented a protest letter. This is where the term “Protestant” comes from.

The Memorial Church is the "main church" of the Ev./Prot. Church in the Palatinate and is called “Retscherkirche” by the locals.
