Those who like markets should visit Sluis. Five different markets are held here each year, and each is social in its own way. On Fridays you can visit the weekly market. In June there is "Brocant langs de waterkant" and a month later the "Zeeuwse dag" with breed show. In the high season you should definitely visit one of the popular evening markets in Sluis. Rounds out the market season with the regional Producer Market in August or November.
Every Friday between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. there are various market traders on the Groote Markt in Sluis. They sell their fresh produce in the heart of the city center. Here you will find a poultry dealer, a cheese stand, a vegetable stand, a syrup waffle and waffle stand, but also a fishmonger. It's a small but very cozy market.
On the second weekend in July, the Groote Markt in Sluis is the scene of the Zeeuwse Dag with breed show. Cattle breeders from the region present their cattle, including the white-blue Belgian, for evaluation. It is something very special to see the cattle up close. In addition to the big cattle, you can also see sheep, lambs, goats and Belgian giants. Are you interested in old tractors and agricultural machinery? On the market they are lined up in all shapes and sizes.
During the Zeeuwse Dag you can buy and taste numerous local products. You will learn about traditional crafts such as making buttermilk and weaving a beehive. Women and men proudly walk the streets in traditional Zeeland costumes. Would you like to take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage? During the trip you will meet the celebrities of Sluis, Jantje van Sluis and Johan Hendrik van Dale. There is a lot to see and do at Zeeuwse Dag.
