It's still over here and you're just looking through a hole in the wooden wall at the distant future. But the plan is that the RS1 - the Radschnellweg 1 - runs more than 100 kilometers long through the potty and should therefore offer more than an alternative to the daily terror on the A40. From here you can on the way to Essen schonmal antesten, as in the near future, the remaining 90 kilometers should look like.

Instead of a ramp, the city of Mülheim installed a lift to get from the high promenade to the Ruhr. The lift holds up to 3 bicycles, due to the arrangement of the doors but no cargo bikes, tandems, etc. At standstill of the elevator there is a staircase or you have to go back to the main train station and use the ramp there.

The Ruhr crossing and the new section afterwards turned out to be great. Lots of space, good marking, ..
Even as tandem riders (who didn't fit in the elevator), we now come relaxed to the other side of the Ruhr and straight to the Müga.

As usually only three wheels fit in and the RS1 currently ends there it can ever come to longer queues. Either exit at the HBF MH 500 meters before or take the stairs opposite the lift.

Super handy and brings you directly to the RS1. With that you can get from there very elegant and easy to food.

Nicely built, the end is crisp, hope that it will be built faster

Not worth a detour. Often waiting times with heavy rush. Then down to the ramp at the main station.

Since the 15th of May 2019 it is finally opened.
This successful reconstruction of the former railway bridge of the Rhenish Railway is and remains the only Ruhr crossing of the RS1.
A "terrace" with views of the Ruhr and benches, invites you to linger.

Not only is the Ruhrschnellweg fast ... no he is also beautiful or brings you to beautiful destinations. The RS1 is an ideal companion for a tour and a good connection to destinations such as the Krupp area in Essen, or the Gruga area and Margarethenhöhe. On the other side of Mülheim it looks just as good, because Mülheim lures with its beautiful promenade or you just follow the Ruhr. That always works.

The continuation of the RS1 to the west should be opened according to current state in the spring 2019 (wiki.velocityruhr.net/index.php?title=Radschnellweg_Ruhr#Wann_wird_die_sanierte_Ruhrbr.C3.BCcke_er.C3.B6ffnet.3F).

Of course, the RS1 is also a great route for touring. The bridge forms one of the points that contribute to the variety

The old bridge shines in new splendor.
The benches and the surrounding area invite you to linger - from there you can also create beautiful landscape photos.

Beautiful bike path past the Camera Obscura, further along with a view of the MüGa from above. On the bridge there is seating and a beautiful view of the Ruhr.

The bicycle lift is a good opportunity to visit the "Marina" of Mülheim an der Ruhr. Here you can look after yourself in small pubs and restaurants. Worth mentioning is the KöPi (delicious beer tasting series ;-))) and the Manducare (burger shop of a different kind). From the MArina you can then make a detour to the water station and continue there on the Ruhr or stay in the "Franky's" in the water station and eat or drink.

In 2008 the Ruhr Bridge was part of the installation "Light is Power - Light is Life - Mülheim is Light". I added a photo of it - back then with tracks on the disused bridge.
