After the severe storms in December 1993, the forest area thinned out by the hurricane was no longer reforested. Birch trees now predominate in this area. These are now cleared in such a way that the rest result in an enormous heart shape, which is gradually supplemented by spruces.

It is now the sixth forest of its kind. Similar KinderHerz forests have been thriving in Schleswig-Holstein, North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg for years. The hectare-sized hearts are not only symbolic of the concern of the Children's Heart Foundation to provide small heart patients with the best possible treatment. As in Bundenbach, trees are given to so-called tree sponsors for a donation. The KinderHerz Foundation uses the money raised to support research projects at children's heart centers throughout Germany.

Unfortunately, the Bundenbach Forest is neither mentioned on the website of the Kinderherz Foundation stiftung-kinderherz.de nor can you become a tree sponsor here... The project was already completed in 2018!
