The corner pavilions designed by French architect Charles-Louis Remy de la Fosse in the line of the avenue in the Great Garden were once created so that Duke George Ludwig – later George I and King of England – could see from his Herrenhausen Palace where the manor houses Gardens ended. Both temples, built in 1706, still exist today.

It was designed between 1707 and 1708 by the French court architect Louis Remy de la Fosse, who significantly influenced the design of the Herrenhausen Gardens. The two pavilions stand in the southern corners of the garden and are richly decorated – since 1757, they have even included busts of Greek and Roman gods.

Originally, they served as sightlines for Duke George Louis (later King George I of England) to identify the boundaries of his garden from the palace. Today, they are quiet retreats in the park, popular with walkers, photographers, and garden lovers.

Anyone approaching the Herrenhausen Gardens from outside will experience their first impressive view of the gardens. Cleverly and consistently planned!
