The iron Friederiken Bridge over the moat of the Great Garden was built in connection with the construction of the Georgengarten in 1839/40 based on a design by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves.
It was named after Friederike of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

    Hiking

The Friederiken Bridge was built in 1839/40 by the architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves.
It crosses the Graft, the canal based on the Dutch model that has surrounded the Great Garden on three sides since 1698.
The bridge was necessary to provide King Ernst August and his wife Friederike with direct access to the gardens from their summer residence in the Georgenpalais.
The railings are particularly lavishly decorated, with their sequence of narrow and wide panels decorated with oars, reed wreaths, dolphins, and, in the center, lances bearing the royal monograms EAF.
