When the former Wallmoden Garden was transformed into an English park between 1835 and 1841, existing waterways were consolidated to create larger, tranquil bodies of water. The excavated soil was used to gently shape the terrain, resulting in soft banks and rolling transitions between meadows and groves of trees. Today, several ponds are located primarily in the west and southeast of the park and form part of a continuous system of ditches that characterizes the Georgengarten.

In the western part of the Georgengarten park lies a pond. The curved stone Augustenbrücke (Augusta Bridge), designed by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves in 1840, spans the narrowest point of this park pond. It is a popular subject for amateur photographers. Nearby stands the Leibniz Temple, a monument honoring the great scholar Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. The rotunda with its 12 Ionic columns sits atop a small hill directly beside the pond. Further back in the pond is another bridge designed by Laves. The iron carriage bridge, dating from 1837, is the oldest of his bridges.
