Wellington Monument is located in the eastern part of Phoenix Park. Being 62 meters tall, it is the largest obelisk in Europe. It was built in the 19th centuary to commemorate Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, Prime Minister and hero of the Napoleon wars. The foundation stone was already laid in 1817, but the memorial was only finished in 1861.

The Wellington Monument is an obelisk located in the center of a grass field, a few hundred meters from the main entrance to Phoenix Park in Dublin. The structure, 62 meters high, is the largest obelisk in Europe.

Reminiscent of British imperialist culture, the monumental structure was built to commemorate the victories of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.
Wellington, British politician and general, who was born in Ireland.

Nowadays, it is used as a meeting point when groups of friends and families gather at the park, because of its height, which makes it difficult to go unnoticed.
