About Damiano 🇮🇹
I thrive on the thrill of discovering new paths, constantly seeking the next adventure. Through-hiking? Oh, consider me hooked. The challenge, the sweat, the triumph, it's all part of the addictive cocktail that keeps me coming back for more.
But let's not reduce hiking to mere exercise. It's a symphony of mental and emotional fortitude, a dance with the wilderness that tests and transcends boundaries. Connecting with nature on such an intimate level is pure nourishment for the soul, especially amidst the towering grandeur of mountains.
For me, finding serenity and purpose amidst the rugged terrain is the ultimate quest. And if my journey can ignite even a flicker of inspiration in someone else's heart to lace up their boots and chase their own adventure, then my mission is fulfilled.

Day 2 From the camping spot at Meelmore Lodge, the trail picks up again and follows scenic valleys and ridges back towards the Silent Valley. Crossing sections of the Mourne Wall and passing through quiet, rugged landscapes, the loop gradually closes as you return to the reservoir, linking back to where the journey began and completing the circuit.

Day 1 Starting from the Silent Valley Reservoir, the hike leads you gradually up into the Mourne Mountains, with the famous Mourne Wall guiding the way. The route climbs all the way to the stone tower and cairn on the summit of Slieve Donard, where the views stretch over the mountains and out to the sea. It’s a tough but rewarding day, ending with the sense of standing on top of the Mournes.

At very low tide on Mornington Strand, you can spot the remains of the Eilean Glas, a coastal trader that ran aground here on 1 May 1980 while carrying salt from Stornoway. Efforts to refloat her failed, and she was broken up on site. Today, one large section and scattered smaller pieces lie on the sands between Bettystown and Mornington, only visible when the tide is far out. Worth seeing if you’re walking the beach, but something to keep in mind for swimmers and kite-surfers when the tide is in.
