Built at the end of the 13th century, the tower secured the northeast corner of the medieval town fortification of Wissembourg. At the Powder Tower, a hiking trail leads to the ramparts and to the west to the former Pfister Gate in the west of the old town.

On the broad walls cannons could be accommodated. On the right is the Powder Tower, which belonged to the first city wall.

On the city walls used to be the cannons and in the powder tower was the powder. The tower was part of the city wall.
