The mill itself dates back to 1168. In the 17th century, it did its job as a "cutting mill". The first grinding mills with hydropower are from the 3rd century BC. From China. But not only grain mills but also water-driven granulators have been proven before the turn of the century. In modern times, those water mills that stayed in operation often switched their propulsion from the waterwheel to one of the newly developed, more efficient water turbines.
The grinding operation was discontinued here in 1978.
