At the beginning of the 15th century, the St. Mary's Church was built instead of a stone church. The tower of St. Mary's Church burned down in 1682 by lightning and was rebuilt until 1692. In 1714, a new baroque pulpit and in 1734 the great Wagner organ are installed.
Since 1994, the war-damaged St. Mary's Church has been rebuilt as a European project in German-Polish cooperation.
After the death of John Paul II, his monument was inaugurated next to St. Mary's Church.
