The Gothic St. Mary's Church was built in 1389 by master builder Brunsberg. The 102 meter high neo-Gothic tower was built from 1854 to 1861 by the Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler. After destruction in the Second World War, the church was rebuilt since 1994 in German-Polish cooperation. In 1997 the roof of the nave was covered and in 2003 the helmet of the tower was restored.

The St. Mary's Church in Chojna (Königsberg/Nm.) has been restored since 1986. The financing is mainly provided by a Polish-German foundation. The church tower is over 100 meters high, making it the sixth tallest in Poland.

At the beginning of the 15th century, St. Mary's Church was built in place of a fieldstone church. The tower of St. Mary's Church burned down in 1682 due to a lightning strike and was rebuilt by 1692. In 1714, a new baroque pulpit was installed and in 1734 the large Wagner organ.
Since 1994, St. Mary's Church, which was destroyed in the war, has been rebuilt as a European project in German-Polish cooperation.
After the death of John Paul II, his monument was inaugurated next to St. Mary's Church.
