"The contrast could hardly be greater: While life pulsates on Wiener Platz, a few meters further on in Mülheim City Garden there is an astonishing calm. This green heart in the center of the district is more than impressive. In the approximately 6.5 hectare green area there is a large meadow, a small forest and beautiful weeping willows on the bank of the pond with cooing water birds.

An absolute eye-catcher next to the Jan Wellem memorial is the pretty fairytale fountain. In the work of the Cologne sculptor Wilhelm Albermann, a group of boys playing, cast in bronze, is the focus.

The wide staircase on Jan-Wellem-Straße was not built until the 1930s. A teahouse donated by wealthy citizens did not survive the Second World War.

The Mülheim City Garden was created in 1913 according to plans by garden architect Josef Vincentz. A year later, the previously independent city "Mülheim am Rhein" was incorporated. Today, the district on the right bank of the Rhine is the most populous in Cologne. The garden architect Theodor Nussbaum had a great influence on the current appearance of the green area.

The Mülheim city garden not only invites you to take lovely walks, there are also table tennis tables, a boules court and a stone chess table to pass the time. Children can have fun on a neighboring playground with a climbing frame and swing."
