The Kolonnenweg is part of the inner-German border installations on the part of the former GDR. It's made from unitary, highly weather-resistant perforated panels (concrete pathway panels), most of which have plants growing through them and are pretty much firmly attached to the ground. One of the most beautiful stretches of the former German border is located above Volkerode. Nature has brought back a lot here and especially in the spring time you can find many flowers and plants, including rare ones.
