The forester's house "Gobert" used to stand here.

In 1991, out of gratitude for the reunification, the Marian grotto with a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary was re-erected and inaugurated (extract from the Catholic parish and the Volkerode local and hiking association).

The statue of Mary was saved from destruction by Allied bombs in Cologne in June 1943. Sister M. Herman and 4 other women took the statue from a grotto in St. George's House and prayed to the Virgin to sustain their life.

They stayed alive.

The forester's house Gobert took in some of the homeless people from the destroyed St. George's house and the statue of Mary, whose original grotto was destroyed, also ended up on the Gobert in this way.
