In 2014, Palm Belgian Craft Brewers restored the 300-year-old village brewery to its former glory. A microbrewery where they experiment with herbs, hops, fruit and wood was given the name De Hoorn. They make test brews of around 1,000 litres, exactly the capacity of the earliest brewing installation.

Former brewery building 'De Hoorn' now serves as a reception building. Guests are received here for a tour and possible tasting.
Beer has been brewed in the village centre of rural Steenhuffel since 1747. The brewery has a rich history and is considered a tourist attraction in the region. Take a tour of the fascinating brewery and the production process of this amber-coloured beer.

The history of brewery PALM goes back to 1525.
The farmstead that would later be called ‘De Hoorn’ was documented early in the history of Steenhuffel. In 1380 it was owned by Peter Vander Smessen. In the tax book of the Duke of Brabant, his property is described as a house with a courtyard, located at the churchyard. Around 1525, old documents mention the name ‘De Hoorn’. It is an inn run by Joos De Lichte. But when Steenhuffel was hit by heavy war violence in the last quarter of the 16th century, De Hoorn was reduced to ashes. It would take several decades before the Mertens family, as the new owner, rebuilt the buildings. However, it was not an inn at that time. Around 1700, De Hoorn was inhabited by Urbaan Lecocq, a nobleman. He sold the property to Andries Van Doorselaer and Joanna Van Accoleyen, who would eventually start brewing there.
