Leireken is the former Steenhuffel station building, located along the Londerzeel-Aalst train connection, which was abolished in 1952. In terms of shape, style and use of building materials, Leireken is a typical example of late 19th-century station buildings.

The railway was abandoned for years until 1987 when the section between Londerzeel and Opwijk was transformed into the Leirekensroute, a cycling and walking path.

The name would refer to the disappeared steam train that was popularly baptized "Leireken", probably referring to one of the drivers named Valère.

In 1984, the non-profit organization Leireken (an association recognized by the General Commissioner for Tourism) received the building on a long lease from the Municipality of Londerzeel. After a thorough restoration, the station is an attractive and busy meeting center for day visitors. Leireken is the starting and ending point of numerous cycling routes and walking routes. The brochures of these routes are for sale in Leireken, at the reception of the Administrative Center in Londerzeel and in Bib Londerzeel.

The station with a unique train interior now houses a cozy bistro. You can go there for a regional beer and a tasty snack.

A first-class train car from 1935 stands on the tracks in front of the station. The interior was designed by Henri van de Velde. After renovation of the interior, the train carriage is now also suitable for receptions, performances, meetings...
