The parish church of St. Jakob in Friedberg, Bavaria, is an important example of neo-Romanesque architecture and has a significant impact on the cityscape. After the church tower of the previous church collapsed in 1868, the current church was built between 1871 and 1873 and consecrated for worship on October 18, 1873. The final consecration took place in 1881 by the Augsburg bishop Pankratius von Dinkel.

The church is characterized by its facade design with differently fired bricks, which create a banding based on Italian models. The interior design is based on the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe in Ravenna. The original frescoes by Ferdinand Wagner were partially damaged during renovation work in the 1950s; however, frescoes in the apse depicting the return of Christ and Mary on the throne of heaven have been preserved.
