There are also countless reports of floods in the history of the Augsburg high drain. So were z. B. in the years 1721, 1723 and 1729 to repair dam breaks. In 1737 alone there were six floods, and in 1789, 1803, 1807, 1816 and 1824 there were further major breaches. For a long time, the population of Augsburg had to live with the situation of a mountain river that was still largely unregulated, the course and amount of water constantly changing. The great accidents such as the “Ascension Pour”, in which large parts of Europe and the region around Augsburg were flooded in August 1501, were remembered. In addition to the spectacular event of the complete destruction of the old Hochablasse in 1910, the Whitsun flood of 1999, during which the Wertach flooded the Pfersee district, is still in current memory.
