It was also the entrance to the fortress and the former town of Königstein in the Middle Ages.
This path no longer leads to the fortress.
The interior now houses the Castle and Town Museum, which covers the history of the town of Königstein, the Königstein Fortress, and the Celtic and Roman eras.
