history

In 1884 the construction of a wooden observation tower began.

In 1899 the Taunus Club built an iron observation tower.

In 1999 the tower was renovated by the city of Königstein and increased to 14.5 m.

In 2012, the tower was no longer accessible for safety reasons and, according to initial considerations, it should be demolished. However, concerns were raised among the population and alternative solutions were sought.

In 2014, an AG was founded in the Mammolshain district to look for alternatives to demolition.

In 2016, the Hardtbergturm e.V. support association (hardtbergturm.de) was founded with the aim of supporting the construction of a new, even taller tower.

In 2021, the demolition and construction of the new Hardtberg tower finally took place.
