Fish farming has been practiced in the ponds around the Riddagshausen monastery for more than 800 years. A prerequisite for the founding of the monastery was even the possibility of creating extensive ponds. The area around the Riddagshäuser ponds was designated a nature reserve early on because of its rare animal and plant species. Today, more than 20 different species of fish are bred in the ponds that are still used. Fischgut Riddagshausen offers a large variety of edible and smoked fish for sale.
