Tips

  • From the monastery hospital there was direct access to the infirmary chapel built at the beginning of the 14th century, so that the sick and the elderly could follow the readings of the Holy Mass from the sickroom.

  • The ailing chapel, donated in 1305, is the oldest surviving building in the monastery, along with the monastery church, the gatehouse and the monastery wall.

  • The Siechenkapelle (siech = sick, infirmary chapel), founded in 1305, is, alongside the monastery church, gatehouse and monastery wall, the oldest surviving building of the former Cistercian monastery. The name "Siechenkapelle" is not certain. It probably served as a prayer room for the monastery hospital, which can be imagined to be located to the west and completely open towards the chapel. Later it may have served as the abbot's private chapel.
