The Siechenkapelle (siech = sick, infirmary chapel), founded in 1305, is, alongside the monastery church, gatehouse and monastery wall, the oldest surviving building of the former Cistercian monastery. The name "Siechenkapelle" is not certain. It probably served as a prayer room for the monastery hospital, which can be imagined to be located to the west and completely open towards the chapel. Later it may have served as the abbot's private chapel.
