Huveneersheuvel is an old cult place where hikers and cyclists can relax.
A place with a moving story...
      Some explanation:
Apart from a single grave slab, little of it can still be seen, but the church and rectory of Nattehaasdonk used to be on this hill. From the Middle Ages, the court of Nattehaasdonk, which was located opposite the church, dominated the area. This was a raised, fortified and walled farm, where the knights' family "de Havesdonck" once resided.
The location of Nattehaasdonk, near the Rupel and Scheldt and along the only road to the ferry from Rupelmonde, was of great strategic importance. Perhaps that was the reason for the creation of the Hof and the associated residential core.
Later the Hof became a leasehold farm. The buildings were eventually largely demolished and the ramparts filled. The church, rectory and cemetery also disappeared. Only a small chapel recalls the place where the church stood for centuries. A heavy and prolonged flood in 1825, one of the many that hit Nattehaasdonk, decided their fate and a new church was forced to be built higher up in Wintam.
