The plastic statue, made by the Antwerp artist Mariette Coppens (°1931-2021), has been here since 1993. "The Dijkgravin" is the main character from the novel of the same name by Marie Gevers.

It tells the story of an energetic and independent girl who, after the death of her father, takes over his position as dike manager in the Scheldt region near Temse, against all prejudices.
