The Evangelical Church of the Holy Cross has stood here since 1207, but not in its current form. Today's building was completed in 1739 after the previous building was demolished during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). However, the tower is much older and dates back to the 13th century.

The church has an unusual transverse orientation, which was particularly fashionable during the Reformation, but was later often abandoned. The bells date from 1653 and 1827 and survived the confiscations of World War II unscathed.

The organ from 1769 was extended to two manuals in 2012.
