The potash heap in Sehnder's core town is part of the Friedrichshall potash mine, where potash was mined and processed into fertilizer until 1982. The mountain, with a footprint of around 30,000 square meters, consists of 19 million tons of unused overburden. Since 1997, the operator K+S has covered the mountain with recycled rubble and earth and greened it. Among other things, the cover is intended to prevent salt from being washed out and getting into the groundwater and the Billerbach stream that flows past.
Every three years, the town of Sehnde organizes a multi-day mountain festival on the mountain, which is attended by several thousand people.

The greened potash dump, popularly known as Kalimanjaro, is one of the potash waste dumps of the former Friedrichshall mines (Sehnde district) and Hugo (Ilten district).
Visible from afar, they bear witness to the region's past as a mining region, although this mountain is special with its greenery.
After crude potash salt was mined in the Friedrichshall potash works from the beginning of the 20th century until 1981, the unusable portion of residual salt was piled up above ground. Over the years, this resulted in a dump with 19 million tons of residual material on an area of around 30,000 m². Since 1997, this has been covered with huge amounts of rubble and earth and covered with greenery to prevent the uncontrolled flow of the salt. Impressive
