The name of the nature reserve is derived from the Zonhoven dialect word toot which means "point, pointed end or protruding part". After all, until the border correction with Houthalen in 1977, De Teut formed a tapering area on the municipal border. Moreover, the Teutheuvel rises above the surrounding landscape. The name Teut in no way refers to the Teuten, the itinerant traders of yesteryear. @nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teut_(nature reserve)
