The Kolverenschans dates from 1604. Not much remains: a raised plateau in a meadow. It was once a defensive structure to protect the inhabitants from roving gangs. A redoubt regulation regulated and divided the tasks: constructing the earthen ramparts, sweeping the surrounding moat and planting woody plants on the defensive wall. A stream system served to keep plundering troops and gangs at bay. Limburg had 82 redoubts, 4 of which were in Zonhoven.
