Today's baroque church of St. Michael in Michelbach was completed in 1768. It is the center of the idyllic half-timbered village.

A beautiful church in the center of Michelbach with a special feature: the tower!
A defense tower erected around 1340, which in 1768/69 was given its present-day attached crest as a church tower on the occasion of a comprehensive renovation of the church. The church, halfway enclosing the tower on its north side, is considered to be the second oldest in the Murg Valley (after St. Laurentius in Gaggenau-Rotenfels); the year it was originally built is unknown. The first written renewal of St. Michael's took place in 1572. The location directly below a relatively steep mountain slope is unfavorable for a weir. A possible explanation for a defense tower at this point could have been an advanced observation and control post for Michelbach Castle (Rosenstein) a little to the north on the Schloßberg, since the castle on its recessed spur was in a good position for defense, but without a good view of the Murg Valley and without direct control of the road there. Details about the history and use of the defense tower are not known.
