The Dammtor in Jüterbog is one of three medieval gates. They were built around 1300 in massive construction and still bear witness to the fortifications that once enclosed the historic core of the city. Until 1840, these gates were closed after sunset, as was the Dammtor. The name "Dammtor" is derived from the western suburban settlement "Damm". After a major fire in the city in 1478, the Dammtor was rebuilt in its current form. Significant structural changes took place with the demolition of the inside of the gate in 1851 and in 1862 with the widening of the passage through the gate.
