The Achatzmühle was built in 1602/1603 and was initially known as the Rothenbühler or Hermes Mühle. In 1694 it was bought by Achatz Huebner and was given its later name from him: Mühle des Achatz.

After the Second World War, the mill was shut down. The main building burned down in 1971, so that nothing can be seen of the mill itself today. Only the chapel, built in 1922, is still there.

Hiking

The chapel at the former Achatzmühle is quiet and idyllic in a meadow, near the district of Hermes. It can only be reached on foot or by bike via hiking trails, for example via the Frankenwald-Steigla Achatzmühlen-Weg.

Snowshoeing

The Achatzmühle used to stand here. This chapel was later built on the site. The mill is the namesake for one of the Frankenwaldsteigla. Due to the few roads in the area, you can go snowshoeing without unbuckling
