The building was commissioned in 1875. The design of the station is by Eduard Römer (1814-1895). The station was built at the railway junction of the Prussian Eastern Railway and the then private railway line Wroclaw-Szczecin. A special solution was found for the intersection, a unique construction consisting of two levels.
So Kuestrin got in 1857 a connection to the Prussian Eastern Railway and to Frankfurt (Oder). In 1867, the city finally got a direct connection to Berlin. The construction of the railway line in Küstrin was fraught with great difficulties. The fortress had to be rebuilt so that it could continue to fulfill its defensive function. New bridges over the rivers and canals that divided the city were needed.
