The gate is part of the Küstrin Fortress.
The Kietz Gate was originally a pedestrian gateway. It acquired its current form and solid bridge after reconstruction in 1888. It was severely damaged during the fighting in 1945 and restored in 2007.

There is the closest possibility to experience the confluence of two large rivers. The way across the Gorin is an experience.

The name, like the street name, comes from the Slavic fishing settlement of Kietz, which was located south of the town. In the 16th century, the gate was merely a small gateway. Through it, one entered the town from the settlement over a narrow bridge over the Warta. Above this Kietz Gate was the office of the Wall Master in the Gatekeeper's House.

Only the fortifications, the Gatekeeper's House, the Garrison Church, and the main guardhouse on the Kurzer Damm survived the Russian bombardment of August 15, 1758, almost unscathed. The rest of the town lay in ruins. Generous financial support from Frederick II, the Great, accelerated the reconstruction of the residential buildings. From 1833, a new highway led from the Kietz Gate to Sonnenburg and via Göritz to Frankfurt. The Kietz Gate in its current form only dates back to 1888.
