The parish church was built in the 14th century and is the burial place of Margrave John. The church burned down in 1758. The new church was destroyed during the siege of 1813/14, and after the fighting in 1945, only the foundations and a few curbstones remained.Further information:

Only the foundation walls, the floor and a few crypts have survived from the parish church of St. Marien. The church was built in the 14th century, rebuilt in the following centuries (16th century), destroyed by fire and rebuilt (second half of the 18th century). During the occupation of the city by French troops between 1806 and 1814, the Marienkirche was vandalized (1813-1814) and then restored. After the fighting at the end of the Second World War, only the outer walls were still standing. They have been removed.

Beautifully designed place of worship in the ruins of the old church. Pure goosebumps. Clear recommendation if you visit the fortress and old town. Well maintained
