Hiking

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was founded around 1252 by Walter de Marvis, Bishop of Tournai, on the site of a chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. The result of a construction campaign limited in time, the building is a fine example of Tournai Gothic style. Damaged during the Second World War, it underwent its first restoration under the direction of Father Clerbaux. The church has been awaiting a new purpose since its incorporation into the parish of St. James in 1964.

This Gothic church was built in 1252 at the request of the bishop of Tournai, Gauthier Marvis, to whom we owe the Gothic part of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. This church has been closed for several years and awaits its repurposing.
