The City Hall of Tournai is a monument with a rich history, located in the center of a charming park.
Since 1809, the municipal administration has been housed in a beautiful neoclassical building built on the site of the former Cistercian abbey of Saint-Martin (11th century).
Most of the buildings of the medieval abbey have unfortunately disappeared after the abolition of the monastery in 1797. The buildings we see today date from the rebuilding of the abbey palace which took place in 1763.
Nevertheless, a treasure has been preserved in this place: a gigantic medieval cellar, hidden under the houses and public buildings of Tournai.
Since some of the municipal administrative services are housed in the town hall, access is limited to working days. It can be visited with a guide and with permission. For more information, please contact the Tournai Tourist Office.
Take the time to admire this historic building.

The town hall is located in a pleasant park with water fountains and rare trees that are sometimes more than a hundred years old.
The building has a long history, as it was built on the site of the former and imposing 11th century Saint Martin abbey.
It is in fact the old abbey palace of this abbey.
After the heavy bombing in May 1940, the town hall was rebuilt in the neoclassical style of the second palace, on the site of the first from 1763.
