This castle, of which only a tower remains, bears witness to the occupation of the city of Tournai by English troops from 1513. The hostility of the population towards this invader from across the Channel pushed the English governor of the place to build a castle on the right bank of the Scheldt between 1515 and 1518. The Henry VIII Tower, the only part still standing, is an imposing circular building, surrounded by a solid wall and crowned with a dripstone. A very rare example of English architecture in our regions, the tower notably contains a Tudor-style fireplace.
