On the site of today's house at Schlossplatz 12 b stood the house in which, after the death of his father in 1779, Johann Paul Friedrich Richter and his mother, Sophia Rosina Richter, lived in poverty from 1784 to 1797. Here, he, who later called himself Jean Paul as a successful writer, "suffered the worst and wrote the best." A memorial plaque commemorates the house, which was demolished in 1875 due to its dilapidated condition.

Here was the house in which Jean Paul temporarily lived during his Hof years. The house was demolished in 1875 due to dilapidation and the current building was erected in its place. There have been memorial plaques on the houses here since 1863.
