View of the Rauschenburg ruinsThe Rauschenburg was built in 1332 as a result of the Eltz feud. With the establishment of the Trutz Eltz and the Rauschenburg, the then Archbishop of Trier and Elector Balduin of Luxembourg enforced his electoral claim to rule against the knights of the Reichsministerial Knights of the castles Schöneck, Ehrenburg, Waldeck and Eltz, which had been independent until then. In 1337 the feud was ended. The Rauschenburg lost its importance and fell into disrepair in the following years. Of the former castle complex, the inner courtyard, the shield wall and the remains of the keep are still clearly visible. The castle is owned by the local community of Mermuth.mermuth.de/verzeichnis/visitenkarte.php?mandat=169768
