View of the Rauschenburg ruinsThe Rauschenburg was built in 1332 as a result of the Eltz feud. With the establishment of the Trutz Eltz and the Rauschenburg, the then Archbishop of Trier and Elector Balduin of Luxembourg enforced his electoral claim to rule against the knights of the Reichsministerial Knights of the castles Schöneck, Ehrenburg, Waldeck and Eltz, which had been independent until then. In 1337 the feud was ended. The Rauschenburg lost its importance and fell into disrepair in the following years. Of the former castle complex, the inner courtyard, the shield wall and the remains of the keep are still clearly visible. The castle is owned by the local community of Mermuth.mermuth.de/verzeichnis/visitenkarte.php?mandat=169768

Cool, if you've read up the history of the castle beforehand and visited it on a hidden path ...

For me, the Ehrbachklamm Traumschleife is one of the most beautiful in the region, varied with a bit of ambition and lots of experiences. An absolute must for every hiking enthusiast or nature lover.

This dream bow rightly bears its name. Exciting, varied and demanding. Not a walk but beautiful. And the children's forest at the end 👍. The highlight is of course the gorge itself.

We ended up there by accident. Actually we just wanted to walk the Ehrbachklamm. From up there we were able to take a descent to the gorge, albeit a difficult one.

A beautiful area, at any time of the year - definitely recommended!

The hiker also has the best view of the ruins of the Rauschenburg from the Peterslay. The Archbishop of Trier had the Rauschenburg built in 1332 as part of the Eltz feud. It served as a counter-castle to subdue his opponents at the castles of Waldeck, Schöneck and Ehrenburg.
